Here is my concern: I have dutifully given Emery her giraffe lovie before every nap and at night. She seems to like it. I'm comfortable with her getting attached to it if it helps her sleep, and think it might even be helpful when we're on vacation and she's sleeping in strange places. Both sets of grandparents have a giraffe, too, so we're covered on all fronts.
The past few days I've given Emery this thin blanket to sleep with while her pink striped blanket is in the wash. It's a hand-me-down and as you can see, has a fun pink car on it. Cute. Kind of.
You see, I want Emery to love giraffe. This will work for us - we have many, so we can wash them when they get dirty, replace them if they get lost, etc. Plus, I really like giraffes.
This blanket, well, I don't know where it really came from and we certainly don't have duplicates.
But every time I go in to get Emery from her nap, she's clutching the car blanket and giraffe is lying all by himself, forgotten, traded in for the love of a car.
I don't blame her for liking this blanket. It's nice and thin, soft, not too hot but still comforting. And I know all I have to do to prevent attachment from occurring is to take it away from her now, before she knows what attachment is all about.
But I'm not sure I have the heart to do so. I don't want to be controlling. Looks like this might be the first step toward letting her choose her own way. Ah, Emery, you are growing up indeed.
